Still Not Surprised

Last year I ran for office to serve my community. I lost. Since then I have tried to find another way to serve my community. I thought starting awareness for an initiative could bring positive change to my community. Because of the Michael Brown incident, I looked into body cameras for Dallas police officers as a possible way to have a positively impact on my community. In the Michael Brown case, I understand there was contradictory evidence and stories, and that is a big reason the officer in that incident was not indicted. But in the recent Eric Gardner case, the officer in that incident was also not indicted, even with clear indisputable video evidence of the entire incident!

Which leads me to ask, what’s the point of trying to make positive change in the community? Even if enough people demanded body cameras on Dallas police officers, and a similar situation occurred in Dallas, would it have a different end result? I don’t think it would. Maybe we should go ahead and save our money.

I think I finally understand why voter turnout is so low in my community. Where’s the hope?
