The Man from PG

I’m in San Jose this week for work.

Since the client is headquartered in Dallas, they sent a staff from Dallas to help out with the work. That isn’t all unfathomable. But it turned out it wasn’t some typical person from Dallas.

It was a guy who grew up around my neighborhood. He went to the schools in my neighborhood. He was from the hood. He left the place after he graduated school, but he returned to Dallas.

The guy was very similar to me and that is so strange to see here. It is so strange to see someone so similar doing the same thing I am doing. This is the fifth year that I’ll be doing this, at three (3) different companies, and it is the first time that I’ve met anyone like me.

The guy kinda looks like my cousin too.

That’s about it.

This was very more interesting in my head.

Man, I live in a crappy neighborhood. You don’t really notice it until you leave to a nicer neighborhood.

My biggest problem with this neighborhood is the crappy streets. They ALLLLL have potholes. The city tried to repave the biggest street in my little block, but it was a bad job. The smooth pavement only, at most, about 8 months.

I’m no city planner, but a street should be built to last longer without potholes.

Our sidewalks are shit too. The houses are the owner’s problems. Sure they could use more paint but what can the city do about that? Schools. I would like nicer schools. My elementary school looks so raggedy. Last year, the kids at the elementary school didn’t have hot food for over 3 months because the oven busted. What’s up with that?

But what bothers me the most is what the city does instead of fixing my streets, schools, and sidewalks.

They put up red-light cameras and more street lights.

More than a year ago the city put up red-light cameras at our biggest intersections. In the process, they fucked up the pavement at that intersection. Now that intersection is full of potholes and random bumps in the road.

The city must be trying to tell us,
traffic ticket revenue > repaving roads & hot food for kids

One day. One day. One day I’ll make sure these kids can have hot lunches. No kid should have to eat deli sandwiches everyday for more than 3 months unless they want to!

And no one should have to drive on these shitty streets!!

Quote of the Day

Me: All I’ve had for dinner is bread, beans, and water. That’s exactly what Jesus had, without the beans.

Mom: oh, ok. Well Jesus lived a long time.
